What's inside the latest issue:
Visit “The Secret Pillars of Rome” where the beauty of the eternal city is simply breathtaking but also fragile. With the Italian government unable to afford maintaining the magnificent architecture and works of art by itself, the impressive buildings could not survive without the millions in private donations by prominent Italian families like the Fendis or Bulgaris, and by foreign patrons.
Meet Carolin Dekeyser, daughter of Bobby Dekeyser of the Dedon furniture label, who both champion social causes. Carolina does her part in the Philippines, where her brand Nay Palad employs local women to make fashion jewelry.
Art & Design
How diverse can art be? Find out what Serbian artist Natalia Ribovic has done with her latest temporary installation, in the mirrored ballroom of the Schaezlerpalais in Augsburg, “Silverio Rabbit.” See how a ceramic candle holder used in China displays wealth and happiness.
We focus on the colors of the rainbows with British artist Damien Hurst who not only has a weakness for diamond encrusted skulls, he’s also rather fond of mice as expressed in his “Beautiful Mickey” print. Next season, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada makes the sun shone with a rainbow sweater and cold skirt combination.
Origami leaps off the paper and onto backpacks, baseball hats and headphones. It doesn’t take an expert to assemble folding metal animal sculptures. The cordless Orime computer mouse, created by Japanese designer Oki Sato, is designed with only flat surfaces. No curves. There’s also a geometric jacket designed by Christian Pellizzarim with eye-catching flannel sleeves and pockets.
Science fiction is the theme in the latest fashion trends and designs. Featured are the breath-taking images from Owen Edwards’ Expanding Universe photographs taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, Star War Addidas sneakers, and the 1966 wristwatch in white gold and moon dial from Girard-Perregaux.
The Joy of Giving
“My motto? Helping others is the shortest route to happiness. I want to be a role model for my daughter Eva, just as my father always was for me.” – Katharina Harf
